Leggett & Platt saves 15% on costs in the internal transport department with GoPal solutions from robotize.

In short

Leggett & Platt is one of the largest external furniture manufacturers in Europe. With the increased demand for production, the company started facing challenges that could only be solved by automating their internal pallet transport. By choosing the GoPal solution, Leggett & Platt both automated their internal pallet transport and boosted production, eliminated staff shortages, and optimized space distribution, while saving 15% on costs in the internal transport department.

The challenge

With its 33.000 m² (355,000 ft²) production area characterized by long distances mixed with lots of activity and traffic, Leggett & Platt were looking for an automation solution, which not only provided fast and safe transportation of pallets, but which could also be easily integrated with the existing infrastructure.

Having analyzed several automation solutions, Leggett & Platt selected the GoPal solution. The company installed and deployed two GoPal 400 AMRs into their production. “Looking at the long-term perspective of internal transport automation, we realized that the Robotize GoPal AMR solution is the perfect support for our company,” says Bartosz Giertyc, Project & Production Manager at Leggett & Platt.

The solution

The challenges have determined the company to think about the GoPal collaborative robots as a possible solution. “As a company, we use the Robotize GoPal collaborative robots for internal transport of pallets from A to B,” says Bartosz Giertyc. Leggett & Platt has deployed two GoPal 400 AMRs. “This decision helped us optimize our production,” says Bartosz Giertyc.

Leggett & Platt also chose to integrate the GoPal solution with their existing ERP system. This way, their ERP system can make delivery requests to the GoControl computer, which then places a delivery order in the robot system queue. These orders can be assigned priorities from low (waste removal) to high (materials supply).

The GoPal solution helped Leggett & Platt solve two of their biggest challenges: workforce shortages and space shortages. “The GoPal solution enabled us to move some employees to other departments to cover staff shortages. It also allowed us to better use the skills of people working in our company,” says Bartosz Giertyc and adds that the GoPal AMRs bring other benefits, such as collecting data for reporting and statistics as well as planning future investments in a more profitable way. “The GoPal solution from Robotize allows us to collect various data, such as completed orders, kilometers traveled, to which production units we transport pallets and at what frequency,” says Bartosz Giertyc.
