Plus Pack is a Danish company that designs and manufactures sustainable and customized packaging solutions for the food industry.
Thanks to the implementation of two GoPal Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs), Plus Pack increased production capacity and freed up their workers to tackle higher productivity processes.
Although their production facility covers 16.000 m2 (172,000 ft2), Plus Pack was looking for a solution that did not require a lot of space to operate. “We chose the GoPal solution from Robotize because it requires less space than a traditional forklift, as the robot can rotate about its own axis,” says Simon Laigaard, Project Manager at Plus Pack.
Plus Pack was also looking for a reliable solution that would minimize the risk of accidents to people and damage to products. “The robot minimizes the risk of accidents, since it always has an eye on its surroundings. The robot has a full 360° view – we humans don’t,” explains Simon Laigaard.
After a thorough investigation of the AMR market, Plus Pack chose the GoPal solution from Robotize and installed and deployed two GoPal AMRs. The decision was primarily based on Gopal's small size and superior agility, which ensured that the solution could be implemented without significant changes to Plus Pack’s production facilities and workflows.
The reliability and operational safety of the GoPal solution plays a key role in the process of increasing production capacity at Plus Pack. “The GoPal is always paying attention – unlike operators, who may be distracted or lost in thought,” explains Simon Laigaard.
The fully integrated GoPal solution is a great advantage in a busy environment. Since no further on-site approvals are required, you can keep production running, while the GoPal solution is being installed and deployed in a couple of days. “To those who believe it may be difficult to install and deploy a GoPal solution, I will say that it is actually relatively simple - you just need a little floor space. You don't need to drill into the floor or to put up tape anywhere as for AGVs," says Simon Laigaard.
The GoPal solution provides Plus Pack with a complete overview of their internal transport. The data and reports gathered helps Plus Pack reduce space shortages and increase production capacity. “With this data, we get a clear picture of the extent of our transport - from production to packaging,” explains Simon Laigaard.
On average, the robots cover a distance of 12 kilometers (7,5 miles) every day. "That is 12 kilometers saved for one of our operators,” says Simon Laigaard.
Thanks to the GoPal solution, Plus Pack's operators can enjoy using their time on high-value tasks, increasing the company’s production capacity.
